The Leica Geovid 3200.COM 10x42 Rangefinder Binoculars integrate Leica's excellent measurement electronics and optical glass with wireless external programming. The 8x42 model has a 342' field of view at 1000 yards (312'+ for eyeglass wearers), close focus of 16.5', and 91% light transmission. At 34.5 ounces including the 3V Lithium CR2 battery, this is a fairly light rangefinding binocular. The magnesium housing is waterproof to a depth of 16.5' and is nitrogen filled. Unique to Leica Geovids is the use of the Perger-Porro prism design, which gives the binocular body its "banana-like" shape, increases light transmission, and has a more dramatic 3D effect over roof prism binoculars due to . As with most current Leica binoculars, Geovids have Leica's HDC multi-coatings and AquaDura water- and dirt-repellent coatings on the external lens surfaces.
These models usher in the next level of technology in rangefinders. Where rangefinders used to require manual ballistic programming on the binocular, the Leica .COM rangefinders are programmed from smart phone apps or a Nielsen-Kellermann/Kestrel Wind Meter device that communicate with the binocular through the Leica Hunting App 2.0, over a Bluetooth connection. It can also integrate with an Apple Watch.
The 3200 in the name means the 3200.COM has a true, repeatable ranging maximum of 3200 yards. Leica ABC ballistic ranging is good to 1100 yards. The user can select clicks, Equivalent Horizontal Range (EHR), or holdover measurement modes. The Leica app lets you select from 12 different ballistic profiles or customize your own profiles. Kestrel Elite Wind Meters provide cross-trajectory windage adjustments and can integrate with the 3200.COM for complete firing solutions all the way out to 3200 yards.
