Nikons Legendary ED glass:
The Nikon EDG Series bring about a remarkably sharp resolution and contrast-rich image thanks to their Extra-low Dispersion Glass or ED Glass for short. It is used in Nikons finest camera lenses and used by professionals who require the details in an image to be clear and bright. The ED Glass reduces ‘color-fringing’ which you can see in the example photo above, while also increasing the resolution of the image so that all details are bright, and color-accurate.
‘Dach’ Prism & Coatings
With Nikons proprietary Dielectric (highly reflective) multi-layer coatings you get theoretically up to 99% + of light reflectivity on the prisms for exceptional, uncompromised color fidelity, brightness, and contrast. The additional Phase-Coatings on the top of the prisms keep undesired shifts in light to an absolute minimum so this all in conjunction with the ED glass is what provides you with the color accurate, high resolution, bright, and detailed images that you can expect from a high-end binocular or other optical device. Additional multi-layer coatings on ALL glass surfaces further aid in light transmission for brighter viewing of wild-life in low light conditions. Sometimes you’re out extra late, or early in the morning and without good optics, you’re going to get a darker image than you see with your bare eyes. These are the reasons why great glass and coatings are important.
Multi-Layer Lens Coatings: This basically means that the lenses have received multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces which increase light transmission to produce a brighter image and therefore better low light performance. Anti-reflective coatings can make a really big difference on the brightness of the image produced. It is not unusual to look through binoculars with smaller objective lenses, but with higher quality anti-reflection coatings and seen them outperform binoculars with much larger objective lenses, but with fewer or no coatings.
